Atlanta artist Steve Penley was commissioned by Coca-Cola to create a painting for this year's Tour Championship. Coca-Cola made prints to be given as gifts to the 1,400 volunteers that will work at the tournament this week in appreciation for their efforts. The original painting will hang in the Coca-Cola headquarters in Atlanta.
To say that Steve Penley is a patriotic artist would be an understatement, as he is known for creating works that celebrate the American ideal. The Atlanta artist painted Don't Tread On Me (left) in the days following September 11, 2001, and the painting remains a poignant reminder of the strength, character and courage required to keep America great. And for golfers, those words can offer a dose of much needed perspective on this day of remembrance. Don't Tread On Me stands for something much bigger than "stay off the greens at East Lake."
